The Nichayathartham function, also known as the engagement ceremony, is an important pre-wedding event where the couple exchanges ring in the presence of their families. This marks the official announcement of their upcoming marriage. During the engagement rituals, the couple promises to love and support each other. Finally, the priest reads the agreement letter or “Lagna Patrika,” Both families sign it as a legal record. Following the Punyahavachanam and Ganapathi Pooja, the couple is given new clothing as part of the Nichayathartham Pooja. Then, they seek blessings from the elders for a successful and long-lasting marriage. The engagement ceremony takes place in the morning or evening, depending on the Nakshatras and Chandrashtamam of the bride and groom.
