Naamakarana

The Naamakaranam ceremony involves giving a name to the newborn based on their Rasi and nakshatra or selecting a suitable name according to the Sastras to seek blessings from the Lord. Punyahavachanam and Naming the Child are the essential Poojas performed during this ceremony. The baby should wear new clothes, and the name is spoken into the baby's ear during the rituals. This name becomes the official Hindu name for Sankalpa. Traditionally, Naamakaranam is performed on the 11th day after the baby's birth, preferably in the morning. Assigning a name to the baby is essential for their identification and Sankalp purposes. The ceremony seeks permission from the Supreme Lord to name the child and provides positive energy to the name that will be used throughout their lifetime.
