Sumangali Pooja

Sumangali Pooja is a ritual honouring the memory of elderly women who passed away when their husbands were alive. The ancestors are believed to participate in this pooja as well. Typically, this pooja is performed by the ladies of the family. To conduct this pooja, the blessings of the departed souls are invoked. The family's Sumangali ladies invite other Sumangali women who are nearby or their friends, and they each receive a new saree and a sumangali kit. Then, the pooja for the ancestral women is performed.
